The 3 previously described species of Philonis (P. crucifer Brethes, P. inermis Champion and P. obesus Champion) and 1 new species (P. passiflorae O'Brien) are treated. P. passiflorae and P. crucifer, reared from passion fruit plants, Passiflora spp., are recognized as a severe pests of this crop in the State of Bahia, Brazil. A redescription of the genus, a key to and descriptions of the 4 spp. are included. Photographs of the habitus and illustrations of the spermatheca and female 8th sternite of the 4 spp. and of the male phallus and endophallus of 3 spp. are also included. The male of P. obesus is not known.
