: | A phylogeny of the genera of Stereodermini is provided, based on 32 characters from adults morphology. This maximum parsimony analysis seems to confirm the monophyly of the tribe but not of all the genera. New synonymies and new combinations are proposed and a new genus is described for Metatrachelizus africanus Damoiseau. 1967: Afrodermus n. gen. Stereodermini probably originated in western Gondwana and two clades were formed when the Atlantic Ocean opened : the african one conquered Asia after India and Madagascar separated from the rest of Africa, and the neotropical one reached the Oriental region by the Beringia land bridge 50 millions years ago, at warmer periods. An identification key to the genera is provided. |
