Planus barbatus Kuschel is an associated insect to female cones of monkey-puzzle tree Araucaria araucana in Chile and Argentina, that during years has been considered a species "rare", due to the low number of specimens that are found placed in only two collections in Chile. Considering the recent find of male and females specimens of this species, this last still unknown, and the scarce existing information on the period for the collection and the type of cone where the adults are found, was decided to carry out this work. Adults, male and female, were photographed through an electronic microscope. The adults of P. barbatus were collected during the autumn (April of 2003), in female cones of monkey-puzzle tree A. araucana whose seeds already had been disseminated; these specimens were found walking in the central axis and mainly among the carpels. Some morphological characters of the head and face show a sexual dimorphism. In other species of the tribe Derelomini, the differences found mainly in the face, like silk hairs of the male and tapering rostrum of the female are utilized for the courtship and oviposition respective
