The banana weevil borer, Cosmopolites sordidus (Germar) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae), is one of the most important pests of banana in Brazil, causing damage that reduces production. This work aimed to evaluate the behavior of varieties and hybrids of banana with regard to the incidence of the weevil. The experiment was conducted at the Lemos Maia Experimental Station, in Una, BA, using a complete randomized block design. The plantation was composed of four varieties and seven hybrids of banana and the evaluation period was from October 2003 to September 2004. The occurrence of the insect was monitored through pseudostem traps and the infestation by the Mesquita method. Low insect infestation was observed, with no significant differences among the varieties and hybrids regarding the larval damage level. The adopted management contributed to the control of the insect.
